Global Search

Actualog search helps you quickly find Categories, Attributes, Products, Companies, Communities, and Users from one place. Search is available from the top navigation bar on most screens.

  • The Search input is located in the top bar.

  • To the right of the input, use the scope selector (dropdown) to choose where to search:

    • Everywhere (recommended for a first try)
    • Categories
    • Attributes
    • Communities
    • Users
    • Products
    • Companies

Using a scope selector is especially useful in systems where the same term may exist in multiple entity types (e.g., a product name can also be a category name).

  1. Click the Search input in the top bar.
  2. Type your query (example: Depth filter).
  3. (Optional) Choose a scope like Categories if you already know what you’re looking for.
  4. Press Enter (or click the search icon).

Understanding the Search Results page

The results page is designed to help you narrow down quickly — it combines entity tabs, view modes, and quick actions.

1) Entity tabs (with counters)

At the top of results you’ll see tabs like:

  • Category (7)
  • Attribute (9)
  • Company (2)

These tabs:

  • show how many matches exist per entity type
  • let you switch results without retyping the query

This “faceted” approach is a standard usability pattern for large catalogs.

2) “Items per page”

Use Items per page (e.g., 12 per page) to control pagination. If your query returns many results, increasing this can speed up review.

3) Result cards (what each card tells you)

Each result is shown as a card. Depending on entity type, a card may include:

  • Title (main matched name)
  • Preview image (if available)
  • Tags / chips (classification, related categories, key labels)
  • Communities (where the entity is visible or referenced)
  • Short description (useful for verifying you found the right thing)
  • Counters/icons (compact indicators such as usage, related objects, or completeness — exact meaning depends on the entity)

4) View modes

On the right above results, you can switch view mode (icons like list/grid/compact). Use:

  • List for reading descriptions and context
  • Grid for scanning images
  • Compact for fast “many items” browsing

5) Quick actions on a result

On the right side of each result card there is an action toolbar (icons). Typical actions include:

  • open the entity page
  • open in a new view/window (depending on browser behavior)
  • save/favorite/watch (if enabled)
  • create/attach/add (context-dependent)

Tip: If you’re unsure what an icon does, hover it — most controls show a tooltip.

Search tips (practical and safe)

  • Prefer 2–4 words instead of single generic terms (e.g., filter cartridge vs filter).

  • If you get too many results:

    • switch scope from EverywhereCategories/Products
    • use entity tabs to narrow
  • If you get too few results:

    • try a shorter query
    • try a synonym or alternate spelling
    • switch scope back to Everywhere

Why results may differ between users

Search respects permissions and workspace context:

  • If you don’t see something another user sees, it may belong to a different Company Workspace or require a role/permission.
